Recent medical studies show that mold is one of the most common causes of allergic symptoms, and certain types of mold can cause fatal disorders. The presence of mold, fungus and mildew can create a health hazard to your family. Homes should be tested to determine the type of mold growing and the level of toxicity. Mold often goes undetected because of its invisibility; most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors and are not aware of the health hazards created by this insidious pollutant. For many years people have known that our indoor air quality is getting worse, but only recently has there been a resource like NORMI where you have the opportunity to hire a trained professional who can evaluate and assess your IAQ/Mold problem. Fungi Finder provides testing to determine concentrations of mold. The inspector cannot determine the extent or type of microbial contamination from the visual inspection alone. An appropriate number of samples must be collected before the presence or absence of mold can be quantified. Sampling may include Swab, Tape, Carpet, or Bulk sampling techniques. We also perform IAQ testing with the latest equipment in Air Sampling methods. Our basic mold inspection fee includes up to 2 samples (Air Samples Extra) to determine the type and amount of contamination as well as Moisture Meter readings where applicable. We may recommend more samples based on the visual inspection, at a small additional per sample charge. Our inspection services include IAQ/Mold sampling, lab testing, environmental assessment, and proposed suggestions for who you should hire to do whatever work might be needed. You can rely on our services to collect the information you need to make the educated decisions required to provide a healthier indoor environment for you and your family or business. We will provide you with a full report form the Microbiology Lab, a complete written report from out Inspector that will include an evaluation, Photos, and any recommendations that we feel would remedy the situation such as Sanitization or Remediation.
· When REMEDIATION is required, we recommend that you use the following criteria to select a REMEDIATOR: ž Must be licensed and bonded in compliance with the municipality, ž Must be fully insured (Worker’s Compensation and General Liability) ž Must have at least five (5) good references for your review, Once the REMEDIATION process is completed, we request that you give us permission to come back to complete “clearance testing” and confirm that proper SANITIZATION solutions have been implemented. Those solutions are listed at the end of the initial report and will also include addressing the areas of specific IAQ/Mold concerns in your environment as well as recommendations for improving the quality of living indoors. By partnering with us, you will be able to create a healthier indoor environment. About Mold Mold plays a natural part in our outdoor environment by breaking down organic matter. It reproduces by means of microscopic spores invisible to the naked eye, they float through the indoor and outdoor air. Mold can begin to grow indoors when spores land on surfaces that are wet or damp. It will not grow without moisture; therefore, it is imperative to stop/fix the water problem to stop further mold growth. Flood damage that has not been dried out within 24-48 hours more than likely will harbor mold growth. Even after the moisture has been removed after this period mold will still be present and could spread throughout the indoor environment. The source of the moisture should be determined in order to prevent further mold problems in the future. Sick Building Syndrome and Building Related Disease are most often due to mold. Water intrusion, coupled with an elevated temperature and a food source create the environment for molds to propagate rapidly. Floods, sewer back-ups, or the presence of bird droppings, domestic or wild animal wastes increase the likelihood that bacteria is involved.
The Truth About Bleach A well-known expert in our area, when interviewed on a local New Orleans radio station, recently said, "When you have a mold problem, simply wash down the affected area with diluted bleach." We have seen FEMA handing out gallons of Clorox to flood-victims. Lowe's and Home Depot stock up pallets of the stuff whenever the impending doom of a threatening hurricane is close. This is one of the most widely publicized "urban legends". Bleach is a powerful oxidizer and can, in many instances, sanitize surfaces of certain types of bacteria but when you are faced with a wall covered in mold, bleach is NOT the product to use.
